Legislative Internship Program
The Legislature of Puerto Rico established
the Pilar Barbosa Internship Program in Education through Act No. 53 of July 27, 1997. The purpose of said
Program is to offer all our educators (school teachers, directors and superintendents and university professors)
the opportunity to be better informed about the educational resources and programs available in Washington, D.C.
Through this unique experience, our professionals in
education shall receive countless benefits that shall further their professional development. The professors selected
by the Joint Committee of the Pilar Barbosa Program do not incur any expenses for the Internship, since the Legislature
covers the air fare and shared lodging expenses, and also provides them with a weekly stipend. The Internship has a four
(4)-week duration, and twenty-five (25) participants are selected every summer.
